Digital Extremes tapped to create
extensive and exciting multiplayer element for 2K Games’ highly
anticipated shooter
New York, NY – May 8, 2009 – 2K
Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:
TTWO), announced today that it has signed a partnership with Digital
Extremes to develop the multiplayer experience for BioShock® 2. Under
this partnership, Digital Extremes is working closely with the creative
team at 2K Marin to develop a new and substantial element that enhances
the lore and fiction of the BioShock universe.
“The fans asked for a multiplayer
experience and we answered,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.
“With Digital Extremes delivering a multiplayer experience for BioShock
2 that features all of the things that make BioShock unique, we’re
holding ourselves to a high standard so that we can deliver the depth and
variety that fans of the BioShock universe demand.”
Multiplayer in BioShock 2 provides a
rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction.
Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test
subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics
in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original
BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the BioShock
toolset to survive as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined
and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be
found in Rapture.
Key features:
· Evolution of the genetically enhanced
shooter – Earn experience points during gameplay to earn access to new
Weapons, Plasmids and Tonics that can be used to create hundreds of
different combinations, allowing players to develop a unique character
that caters to their playing style.
· Extend the Rapture fiction –
Players will step into the shoes of Rapture citizens and learn more about
the fall of Rapture as they progress through the experience.
· See Rapture before the fall –
Experience Rapture before it was reclaimed by the ocean and engage in
combat over iconic environments in locations such as Kashmir Restaurant
and Mercury Suites, all of which have been reworked from the ground up to
deliver a fast-paced multiplayer experience.
· FPS veterans add their touch to the
multiplayer experience – Digital Extremes brings more than 10 years of
first person shooter experience including development of award-winning
entries in the Unreal® and Unreal Tournament® franchise.
BioShock 2 is currently in development
at 2K Marin, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes for PLAYSTATION®3 computer
entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system
from Microsoft and Windows-based PC. This title is not yet rated by the
ESRB.

Patapon 2 shakes PSP
War Plan Pacific patched
Top Gun flies to iPhone
Critically Acclaimed
Franchise Finds a New Beat With Patapon(TM)2, Exclusively for the PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable)
System
Popular Rhythm-based Sequel Drums its
Way Back to Casual and Core Gamers with Double the Content, Multiplayer
Gameplay, and Deeper Customization Features
FOSTER CITY, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire/
-- Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today the release
of Patapon™2, available exclusively for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable).
Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, Japan
Studio, Patapon 2 marks the return of the beloved 2D platform-action and
rhythm game where players command a colorful tribe of Patapons, a fearless
group of quirky eyeball warriors, through a series of challenging quests
in an unfamiliar land. Building upon the distinct combination of action
and rhythm-based gameplay introduced in the critically-acclaimed 2008
original, players must utilize various combinations of drumbeats to
command the Patapon to march, retreat, attack, defend, charge, and use
magic in the quest for victory and finding Earthend. Patapon 2 is
available now in a digital only format for $19.99. Consumers can purchase
Patapon 2 at retail stores in the form of redeemable voucher cards or
purchase directly from PlayStation® Network.
“As an established franchise on PSP,
Patapon 2 delivers top value at $19.99. Its signature charm and
intelligent gameplay mechanics return along with more than 200% more
content,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President, Product Marketing,
SCEA. “With the introduction of multiplayer mode, along with
customizable characters and new Evolution System, Patapon 2 is an
accessible and intuitive experience that bridges the gap between casual
and core gamers.”
With more than double the content of its
predecessor, Patapon 2 features a deeper single-player experience along
with a wealth of original missions and new cast of warriors, including a
customizable “Hero” character. A first for the franchise, Patapon 2
also offers a multiplayer mode where up to four players can take their
Hero Patapons and join forces in a collaborative marching rhythm to carry
a mysterious egg across a treacherous battlefield. Success brings a “Don
Chaka” mode, where players are tested again with drumming a collective
rhythm to gain items that can be used in single player. Patapon 2 also
delivers Game Sharing functionality to allow multiple people to play
together so long as one of them owns the game.
Catering to both the core franchise
fanatic and the Patapon novice, Patapon 2 features difficulty settings
that adjust the single-player gameplay to the appropriate level of the
player, thus allowing the game to be experienced and enjoyed by players of
all skill sets. Whether a Patapon veteran or rookie, Patapon 2 brings
players into a charming and melodic world full of color and wit, featuring
over 80 specific missions and more than 20 boss encounters while the tribe
of scampering eyeballs seek Earthend.
From the fertile imagination of French
graphic artist Rolito, Patapon 2 opens in the signature 2D world of the
Patapons as they depart their homeland in their ongoing pursuit of
Earthend. Arriving in a strange land after a harrowing ocean journey, the
Patapons come eyeball-to-eyeball with the Karmen Tribe and the strange,
dangerous creatures that inhabit their land. In leading the Patapon tribe
to its ultimate quest, players will unlock and discover new ranks of
Patapons: the bird riding Toripon, the powerful robotic Robopon warriors,
and Mahopon magicians. Additionally a new superior warrior, the Hero
Patapon, can be customized to fit any fighting style desired by mixing
various weapons and Patapon Hero masks. Once in battle, players will have
the opportunity to lead the Patapons to victory with a total of eight
command rhythms, including the new jump, power-up, and party commands –
all which can be combined to change gameplay tactics and action throughout
the various missions.
Leading the upgraded strategic elements
of Patapon 2 is the new Evolution System. Skills on the battlefield can be
dramatically improved by evolving into other Patapon forms, called
Rarepons, through upgrades and “level ups.” Players can strategically
customize and build the Patapon army by determining the appropriate
weapons, armor, and battle positions. True to its musical roots, Patapon 2
also offers seven music-based mini-games that allow players the
opportunity to earn bonuses and upgrades to further customize the Patapon
warriors in preparation for fun and rhythmic battle.
The independent Entertainment Software
Rating Board (ESRB) rates Patapon 2 “E” for “Everyone”. For more

War Plan Pacific Now With 100% More
PBEM Action! New Patch Adds Brand New Play Mode!
Hampstead, NC, 05 May 2009
If you are one of the many War Plan
Pacific players suffering from PBEM dysfunction, that dreaded affliction
in which the desire to play opponents via email cannot be realized, it is
time to rejoice and end the suffering! KE Studios, developer of the hit
title, has just made available version 1.0.3 of War Plan Pacific which
includes a brand new way to play the game against others: PBEM!
PBEM (Play By E-Mail) allows games to be
played out at your leisure, without the need for syncing up a time to sit
down and play with your opponent. War Plan Pacific was already the perfect
strategic wargame for the gamer on the go, and now with the additional
PBEM support it becomes even more busy gamer friendly! Just be warned,
while the 1.0.3 patch cures players of PBEM dysfunction it does increase
the likelihood of prolonged usage of War Plan Pacific, which if lasting
for more than four hours at a time can lead to angry spouses, sleeping on
the couch, and missed social events. But really don't worry, because it's
well worth it.
It should be noted that to accommodate
PBEM play certain gameplay elements have been modified when playing by
PBEM. They include a modification to reaction movement and setting
aggressiveness for groups arriving at their destinations since combat on
the battle board is handled entirely by the computer. Complete details on
how PBEM works and the changes can be found in the accompanying patch
documentation.
Besides adding PBEM play to War Plan
Pacific the version 1.0.3 patch also includes the following content:
Support now for 1680x1050 and 1440x900
screen resolutions. Fixed bug in which a couple of light cruisers could
prevent raids from hitting a base no matter how powerful the attacking
force. Fixed bug in which invasions did not happen if the defender chose
air. Fixed bug in which the Allies sometimes did not get adequate
amphibious groups. Added a .wpp extension for saved games. Now players can
simply double-click on a saved game to immediately launch the game.
Additionally, one can drag and drop the file onto a War Plan Pacific
desktop shortcut. The War Plan Pacific version 1.0.3 patch can be
downloaded directly from the official product page at Shrapnel Games.
To find PBEM opponents please visit the
official forum.
War Plan Pacific was developed by KE
Studios and is published by Shrapnel Games, home to many independent games
of distinction. It is available for Windows at only $39.95 as either a
physical product shipped to your door or as a digital download. The
download version is on sale now thru May 12th as part of our Download Days
Sale Event. There is a demo that provides a nice introduction to the full
game available at the product page, and you can check out a video of War
Plan Pacific in action on You Tube.
Since being released in December of 2008
War Plan Pacific has gone on to become one of the most acclaimed wargames
of recent release. Out of Eight, Flash of Steel, Gameshark, IGN, Wargamer,
Armchair General, Cyberstratge, and Mike Kreuzer have all praised War Plan
Pacific's elegant gameplay and accessibility. The designer, John Hawkins,
has also been a featured guest on the premier strategy podcast, Three
Moves Ahead. You can listen to his episode here.
War Plan Pacific features the entire war
in the Pacific from 1941 until 1945, but playable in a single session.
With multiple victory conditions and three starting scenarios players will
find the game highly addictive as they search for their own elusive
decisive battle to win the war. Scenarios can be edited and new ones
created using nothing more than a text editor, although graphics are hard
coded (sorry, no War Plan Atlantic mods).

SOUTHWEST VIDEO GAME EXPO POSTPONED
Dallas - May 1, 2009 - The Southwest
Video Game Expo (SWGE) today announced it would be postponed due economic
reasons. The show was to be the largest event of its kind in the Southwest
showcasing new games for the holiday season from all the major publishers.
This expo was to be held at the Dallas Convention Center from November
20-22, 2009. However with recent events forcing publishers to limit their
budgets the management reconsidered SWGE's ability to put on the kind of
show people would be excited to attend. Li-Fi, the consumer electronic
side of SWGE was cancelled previously.
"The management deeply regrets that
the expo in Texas will not be happening in 2009 as we had planned,"
said Don Jennings, President of Li-Fi, Inc. "A poor economy mixed
with a large number of other expos for publishers to attend has meant our
show didn't perform the way we had hoped it would. We still hope someday
to bring a large event like this to the Southwest, and are determined that
it will be worth the wait."
About Li-Fi Inc. Li-Fi is a Texas based
show management company dedicated to producing premier expos in the
Southwest. By bringing in the top manufacturers in Video Games, Digital
Imaging, Robotics, Personal Computing, Home Theatre, Audio, Mobile

and Southwest Video Game Expo represent the best and most innovative
products of the year brought straight to consumers.

today the release of their new app Seek ‘n Spell for the iPhone 3G. Seek
‘n Spell transforms iPhone gaming from a solo, sedentary experience to
an active and social outdoor contest. Combining real outdoor spaces with
virtual letters, Seek ‘n Spell is a word game where you and your friends
compete to gather letter tiles and create words to score the most points.
Want to see it in action? The Seek ‘n Spell trailer is available for
download below.
With Seek ‘n Spell, players gather in
a park or other large outdoor space with a clear view of the sky and

EXCITEBOTS: TRICK RACING FOR WII
High-Octane Stunts, Unexpected Twists
and Online Competition Highlight New Motion-Controlled Racing Game
REDMOND, Wash., April 20, 2009 - Not
even the craziest morning commute can compare to the outrageous
behind-the-wheel action of Excitebots™: Trick Racing, launching today
exclusively for Nintendo's top-selling Wii™ console. Combining
high-speed racing thrills with gravity-defying stunts and support for
online action via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, the game pushes the
full-throttle fun of the Excite franchise into the red.
Expanding upon the fast-paced action of
Excite Truck™, Excitebots™: Trick Racing puts players in command of
wild robotic vehicles styled to look like animals and insects. Players
must drive, sprint and fly around the track to earn stars, performing wild
stunts to boost their score while racing with an incredible burst of
speed. The game puts the built-in wireless features of the Wii system to

Wi-Fi Connection. Players can also trade ghost data via WiiConnect24™
and challenge each other to outdo their most dazzling tricks. Excitebots:
Trick Racing uses the Wii Wheel™ accessory to let drivers pick up and
play with ease, combining familiar steering motions with unique special
moves such as turbo bursts, power slides and huge jumps.
As if tearing around the track wasn't
entertaining enough, Excitebots: Trick Racing also engages players in a
set of wild in-race mini-games. Drivers may find themselves smashing
through a set of bowling pins, hitting a clown in the face with a pie,
hitting a baseball or assembling a sandwich by twisting the Wii Wheel to
maneuver their racer through a series of specific ingredients - all while

he was responsible for establishing and managing the regional offices of
SCEE in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He moved back to the United
Kingdom in 1999 and leveraging his talent and skills in the broad areas of
sales, marketing and operations, Reeves contributed immensely in selling
millions of the original PlayStation®, PlayStation®2, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable)
and establishing the PlayStation name as the number one brand in the home
digital entertainment industry in the countries and regions across the
Europe/PAL territory. In 2003, Reeves was appointed President and COO of
SCEE and CEO 2 years later, and while having nearly 100 countries in the
Europe/PAL territories reporting to him and managing the vast market of
diverse cultures and different business customs, he provided strong
leadership in successfully launching PLAYSTATION®3 in the growing
competitive landscape.
“David’s contribution in firmly
establishing the PlayStation brand and expanding the business in
Europe/PAL territories in his 14 year tenure at SCEE is immeasurable,”
said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to David for the many
accomplishments he made to the PlayStation business and wish him the best
luck in his future endeavours.”
“It has been a wonderful ride with
PlayStation,” said David Reeves. “I never got to visit all 106
countries but managed 66. I have just two things to say on leaving: I want
to thank all of those people who have supported SCEE and me personally in
the past 14 years; you have been magnificent! Secondly, I am going to
spend my time now trying to repay society for all I have taken from it. If
your children are having physics lessons at the local school or wondering
why their ski instructor is very elderly, your car mechanic has a bad
back, or the social worker keeps bringing you PSP games, then it could
just be me! Good luck to everybody at SCEE and everybody who continues to
support us.”

Sony Online Entertainment Reveals
Solomon Grundy in DC Universe™ Online!
Solomon Grundy™ is part zombie and
part plant, a bizarre, centuries-old half-human life form filled with
confused anger. At times he is a rampaging monster, at others a
calculating and coldblooded villain.
Solomon Grundy's enhanced strength makes
him a threat even to the DC Universe's strongest heroes. As an immortal,
massive blows or injuries can't kill or hurt him - afterwards, he simply
regenerates to rise again.
Solomon Grundy has been seen skulking in
swamps, sewers, and abandoned buildings in both Metropolis and Gotham
City. Denizens of these cities beware the low growl of "Solomon
Grundy, born on a Monday..."
ChaseTheChuckwagon.com Acquires
GameGavel.com
As of last night ChaseTheChuckwagon.com
has acquired competing video gaming auction site GameGavel.com. Jasen
Hicks, the owner of GG has not been able to give the attention needed to
keep his site going in the direction he wanted so we negotiated a buy out
of his domain name. In a few days GameGavel.com will be redirected to
ChaseTheChuckwagon.com and his website will be shut down. It is my
intention to continue co-branding both names, so pick the name you like
and go with it. This should also go along way to bringing in a more
diverse group of gamers, as GameGavel.com is a more "universal"
name than ChaseTheChuckwagon.com.
For all existing ChaseTheChuckwagon.com
members this is a very good thing as we will reap the benefits of 15
months of GameGavel.com links and threads floating around the net that
will now point to us. I am hoping this will help aid our growth and
continue our efforts to become the best place to buy and sell games.
Thanks again to all of you for sticking
with us while we grow.

Crysis Warhead®, the award-winning first-person shooter originally
released last Fall. Starting today, gamers can play all of Crysis Wars**
online for free including each of the game’s three action-packed
multiplayer modes and all 23 maps. The free trial period runs until
Friday, April 17, 2009.
This trial is designed to give players a
sample of the signature action and visuals that only the Crysis® series
delivered. For those players that want more than just a sample, EA and
Crytek will release Crysis® Maximum Edition, a compilation of all three
Crysis games in one box (Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars).
Available beginning May 5th for the MSRP of $39.99, Crysis Maximum Edition
is the ultimate Crysis experience.
“When Crysis Wars was released seven
months ago, one of our biggest goals was to be able to deliver continued
support to our growing multiplayer community,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and
President of Crytek. “We think we have delivered on that promise, not
only by releasing new content, fixes and our powerful MOD SDK, but also by
continuing to offer these types of free trials.”
Crysis Wars supports matches for up to
32 players and contains three distinct gameplay modes; InstantAction,
frenetic deathmatch enhanced by the power of the nanosuit, PowerStruggle,
a hardcore team-based mode and TeamInstantAction, a mix of fast-paced
action in a team-based environment.
Also available now is Crytek’s
powerful MOD SDK editor tool, which allows gamers to tap their inner game
designer to make maps and mods for Crysis Wars both multi-and-single
player. All player-generated maps for multiplayer will be accessible to
the entire community during this free trial period.
Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars
are all rated ‘M’ for Mature by the ESRB and 18+ by PEGI. For more
