WORLD RENOWNED RECORDING GROUP
AEROSMITH ROCKS THIS WAY TO GUITAR HERO®: AEROSMITH®
Epic Collaboration Creates First
Music-Based Game to Feature One Band
Free Download of “Dream On” Offered
to Commemorate Alliance
Santa Monica, CA – February 15, 2008
– Fire up the fret board, crank the amp to 11 and get ready to rock this
way with Activision, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero®: Aerosmith®,
the first game built around the legendary music of America’s Greatest
Rock ‘N Roll Band: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton
and Joey Kramer. Slated for release this June, this latest installment
from the franchise with the #1 best-selling video game in 2007, puts
players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton
(bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer.
Gamers will experience Aerosmith’s GRAMMY® winning career, from their
first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment
vehicle offers.
To celebrate this historic,
ground-breaking collaboration, Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock fans
will have the opportunity to download and jam to Aerosmith’s “Dream
On.” The song will be available for free from February 16-18 on Xbox
LIVE® Marketplace for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from
Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer
entertainment system. For more information, please visit
www.guitarhero.com.
“Having a game built around Aerosmith
has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” says Joe
Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have
fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and
learning about the band’s history.”
Steven Tyler says, “Any band that can
go from ‘Don’t Want to Miss A Thing’ (Aerosmith’s #1 smash hit) to
the ass-kicking ‘Sweet Emotion’ to the cheekiness of ‘Love in an
Elevator,’ to the classic ballad ‘Dream On’ shows why Activision
chose us to headline this game based on the diversity of the Aerosmith
catalog. Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has
puppies.”
Perry adds, “On a larger scale, it’s
cool for us to be pioneers helping to rebuild the music industry through a
format like video games. It’s great for rock since the record companies
are struggling to make sense of how things are changing. Fans want to get
and experience music in new formats--and there are going to be some of
them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start
bands. It’s what’s happening now, and it’s only going to build more
momentum in the future. It’s a massive change for the music business.”
“We are extremely excited that
Aerosmith chose to team up with Guitar Hero, bringing one of the world’s
all-time best-selling artists together with one of the biggest video game
brands, to deliver a new and unique interactive way for our customers to
connect with artists and their music,” said Dusty Welch, head of
publishing for Activision/RedOctane. “This partnership will give
Aerosmith, a band that has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, a
powerful and innovative platform to reach their fans and new audiences.”
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith brings these
quintessential rock legends to the interactive realm to create the
ultimate gaming experience. As fans progress through their careers in the
game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, as well
as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with
or has been inspired by in some way. Venues from historical moments during
the band’s illustrious career offer the experience of “sweet emotion”
and further capture the essence of the band’s rise to fame.
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is being
developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and
entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer
entertainment system. The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious
Visions. The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being
developed by Budcat. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB.
About Aerosmith
For more than 30 years AEROSMITH has
defined American Rock 'n' Roll. Just a brief overview of their remarkable
career is truly mind-boggling: over 150 million albums sold, induction
into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, countless awards (four Grammy
Awards, eight American Music Awards, six Billboard Awards, and 12 MTV
Awards), electrifying sold-out concerts around the world and a diehard
"Blue Army" fan-base numbering in the millions worldwide.
Described by Mojo editor Phil Alexander in a May '07 cover story as “America's
greatest hard rock act,” the members of AEROSMITH--STEVEN TYLER
(vocals), JOE PERRY (guitar), BRAD WHITFORD (guitar), TOM HAMILTON (bass)
and JOEY KRAMER (drums)--remain creatively vital, and are the platinum
standard for artistic and commercial success in the music business.
Through it all they have defeated the odds, silenced their critics and
have undeniably withstood the test of time. AEROSMITH are beginning to
work on their next studio album, the follow-up to 2004’s critically
acclaimed HONKIN ON BOBO, which received a four-star Rolling Stone review.

Impulse and Impact from PhaseSpace
capture every gesture at Game developers conference
PhaseSpace demonstrates the new IMPACT
Desktop System, and the Impulse solution driving characters inside the
Unreal Engine® in real time
San Leandro, Calif. February 13, 2008 -
PhaseSpace, the price and performance leader in optical motion capture,
announced today a new desktop motion capture product - the IMPACT, to be
shown for the first time ever at the Game Developer's Conference (GDC)
2008. It will also be showing real time character animation inside the
Epic Unreal Engine driven in real time. Demonstrations will take place in
booth 6633 at GDC 2008 in San Francisco, February 20-22.
The IMPACT solution allows head
tracking, as well as hands, fingers and gestures at an artist's desk
without requiring a capture stage. This real time desktop solution was
designed to free the artist from doing hand and finger motions by
keyframes. At $5,000, the IMPACT system provides 3D input with sub
millimeter resolution for VR and AR with better speed and resolution than
any system on the market.
PhaseSpace CEO Tracy McSheery said,
"Our IMPACT desktop motion capture solution is based on numerous
requests from customers who wanted to do head tracking or hands and
gestures at their desk, without the space and complexity of a full motion
capture system. The IMPACT system now allows the animator to have a
solution at their desk that scales with the same software and technology
as the full studio solution."
PhaseSpace's IMPULSE motion capture
system will be shown with characters from Zombie Inc.© being driven in
real time in the Epic Unreal Engine during the show as well. Mark Long,
President of Zombie Studios said, "Our artists are thrilled to have
their own PhaseSpace system in house and get to try on their own
characters, bringing them to life in real time. I'm happy that we aren't
spending time and money cleaning up data, instead we can be creating
characters and action that make our games great."
The PhaseSpace Impulse motion capture
system uses active LED markers producing a unique ID for each marker. At 3
times the speed and 3 times the resolution of other systems, the Impulse
system displays motion data in real time and is in use with NASA, the
armed forces and major research institutions. It is also one third the
price of older technologies allowing an 8 camera, 3,600 x 3,600 resolution
tracking system to be sold for under $50,000.
About PhaseSpace
PhaseSpace Inc. was founded in 1994 with
the mission of developing new technologies and products for emerging
motion tracking markets. Drawing upon the talents of a strong team of
scientists and engineers from diverse technical backgrounds, PhaseSpace
has developed motion capture solutions for the research, industrial and
graphic arts communities.
PhaseSpace is the first to introduce a
product that breaks the cost barrier with affordable hardware and
affordable applications. The PhaseSpace Impulse System was developed as a
new generation of 3D optical motion capture systems designed to be
affordable to small companies, universities and individuals, lowering the
cost of ownership so that it would be a financially feasible tool for a
single artist or researcher.

2K Play announces Dora and Diego
games for the Wii and PS2 now available
2K Play, a publishing label of Take-Two
Interactive Software, Inc., and Nickelodeon announced that Go, Diego, Go!:
Safari Rescue™ for the Wii™ home video game system and PlayStation®2
computer entertainment system is now available. The title represents 2K
Play’s first Wii game engineered specifically for preschoolers and is
based on extensive Nickelodeon in-home research that focused on how to
best match the abilities and needs of younger children with the
capabilities of the platform. Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Mermaids™
is also now available for the PlayStation 2 system.
Go, Diego, Go!: Safari Rescue was
designed with 13 intuitive Wii-centric motions that maximize the
engineering of the Wii Remote™ for a preschooler. Taking on the role of
Diego in a race across Africa, gamers stomp to scare away lions, jump with
Baby Jaguar, paint stripes on zebras, climb up ladders and swim across the
jungle river by mimicking those actions with the Wii Remote. The game has
a unique feature which allows parents to collaborate with younger gamers
by using the special Safari Guide Helper Feature and a second Wii Remote.
Preschoolers can, by themselves, help Diego blow up a hot air balloon by
pumping up and down, but their actions are enhanced with speed and vibrant
animations when assisted.
In Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the
Mermaids, Dora and Boots need help bringing a Magic Crown to Marianna the
Mermaid. By swinging, sliding and bouncing through the game, players
travel over tropical land and sea to save Mermaid Kingdom. Along the way,
Dora magically becomes a mermaid herself.
The Go, Diego, Go!: Safari Rescue and
Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Mermaids games feature the same voice
actors as the popular Nick Jr. TV shows. In addition to pre-development
research, the games were also tested by children and moms for
age-appropriateness, fun factor and overall quality. The packaging on both
titles features a "Kid-Tested" seal.
Go, Diego, Go!: Safari Rescue was
developed by High Voltage and is now available for the Wii for a suggested
retail price of $39.99 and the PlayStation 2 system for $29.99. Dora the
Explorer: Dora Saves the Mermaids was developed by Totally Games and is
now available for the PlayStation 2 system for a suggested retail price of
$29.99.

Twofish, Inc. Unveils Twofish
Elements™
Plug-and-play Economic Engine empowers
game publishers to dynamically adjust transaction, account and inventory
policies to maximize profit and game play appeal
Redwood City, CA – February 12, 2008
– Twofish, Inc. today launched Twofish Elements™, the game industry’s
first turnkey solution for powering a dynamic and realistic in-game
economy. A true Economic Engine, Twofish Elements integrates seamlessly
into games, provides a flexible and secure banking and retail
infrastructure, and puts complex economic analytics at a game operator’s
fingertips.
The technology solves core problems with
an emerging business model for the video game industry, in which games are
distributed for free and players “pay-as-they-play,” making small
in-game purchases called micro-transactions.
“Micro-transactions are here and now.
But they require a whole new level of sophistication for the games
industry,” said Lee Crawford, founder and CEO of Twofish. “Developers
understand storytelling and character development, but most lack
experience with financial markets and retail optimization. Twofish
Elements fills in the knowledge gap, giving developers a robust solution
that they can implement in weeks, rather than spending a year and millions
of dollars to develop a partial solution on their own.”
Analysts from Pacific Crest believe the
burgeoning online casual gaming space will continue its rapid growth,
reaching $725 million in 2008 with 15% of the revenue being driven by
in-game, item-based, real money purchases. To deal with the market shift,
game publishers are in dire need of a dedicated system designed with
levels of security and fidelity that are typically found within the
banking community.
Twofish Elements is Twofish’s answer
to high development costs and steep learning curves for developers who
want to compete in the future of online gaming. By empowering game
publishers who use Twofish Elements with the ability to simply and easily
control real world economic features, such as inventory logic, account
management policies, complex pricing models, flexible types of
transactions, and a multicurrency system, Twofish ensures that in-game
economies will thrive and game makers will profit.
The features provided by Twofish
Elements represent a significant time investment from Crawford and his
in-house team, which includes a unique set of expertise across game
design, financial markets and consumer Internet.
“As a plug-and-play Economic Engine,
our technology easily integrates with any title, at any stage of
development, and goes well beyond the limited after-market solutions
currently being offered to developers and publishers,” Crawford added.
“Twofish Elements is much more than just a point of sale solution or
Band-Aid fix – it’s the elemental core of a game’s economy.”
Twofish Elements was conceived by
Twofish founder and CEO Crawford, whose unique expertise across game
engineering (at Yahoo! Games, Shockwave.com, and Segasoft Networks) and
transaction processing (Trintech, Inc.) has translated into
industry-changing insights and technology.
Founded in December 2006, Twofish has
been venture funded by Venrock and Rustic Canyon Partners.

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/
-- Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) announced today the
North American release of the highly-anticipated Twisted Metal(R): Head
On: Extra Twisted Edition, available exclusively for PlayStation(R)2.
Developed by Eat Sleep Play(TM), the new design studio co-founded by the
original creators of the Twisted Metal(R) franchise, David Jaffe and Scott
Campbell, Twisted Metal(R): Head On: Extra Twisted Edition, marks the
return of the original vehicular combat game, and extends the reign of the
longest-running PlayStation-exclusive franchise of all-time. When the
original Twisted Metal(R) was released in 1995, it introduced an array of
fully-destructible battlegrounds and lethal machines, equipped with a
variety of weaponry, designed to reduce the competition to scrap
metal.
Now, along with the vehicles and environments from the PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)
Portable) version of Twisted Metal(R): Head-On, Twisted Metal: Head-On:
Extra Twisted Edition lets players reminisce with classic characters and
arenas of the past and offers up the "Lost" levels, built from
the never-released Twisted Metal: Black(R) sequel. "Twisted Metal:
Head On: Extra Twisted Edition returns to its roots and combines the
perfect blend of gameplay and bonus content to deliver what I believe is
the best Twisted Metal ever," said Jeff Reese, director, software
marketing, SCEA. "A tremendous value at only $19.99, this title also
demonstrates our continued commitment to providing new and compelling
content to PlayStation 2." With over eight million copies of previous
Twisted Metal titles sold and legions of loyal fans worldwide, this latest
edition also includes a comprehensive collection of bonus features,
creating a "must-have" collectible for Twisted Metal followers.
For the first time ever, in the "Sweet Tour" mode, players will
be able to take the evil face of the franchise, Sweet Tooth, out of his
ice cream truck and take direct control of him as they explore a new level
on foot and learn factoids about the Twisted Metal franchise. Also
included with the title is a documentary on the Twisted Metal franchise,
the never-before-seen "Lost Ending Movies" from the editing room
floor of the final version of the original Twisted Metal, a special online
download code to access the "Twisted Metal Symphony" -- a
collection of the team's favorite music and voice over selects, and an art
booklet featuring never-released Twisted Metal concept art that provides
insight into the demented evolution of the franchise.
About Twisted Metal: Head On: Extra
Twisted Edition Destruction is at the game's core. The latest installment
in the multi-million selling franchise provides a variety of gameplay
options as gamers can go head-to-head or compete against the Artificial
Intelligence (AI). Players will deliver devastation in a variety of battle
arenas as they strap themselves into one of several destructive machines
equipped with machine guns, turbo boosts and special attacks unique to
each vehicle. Players can choose between several modes of play, all
designed to test their mettle in the car combat arena. Challenge Mode
allows drivers to choose their vehicle, the arena and a host of Artificial
Intelligence (AI) controlled enemies before being sent into battle, while
in Story Mode, drivers choose their vehicles before progressing through a
series of increasingly difficult arenas. For the ultimate gauntlet,
Endurance Mode provides drivers with an endless onslaught of punishment in
the form of AI controlled opponents -- in a battle to the end.
Additionally, players have the option of single-player or two-player
split-screen battles, where friends become enemies in the heat of battle.
The independent Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates Twisted
Metal: Head On: Extra Twisted Edition "T" for "Teen".

2008 ION Conference Connects
Attendees With New Networking Avenues
SEATTLE, Washington, February 5, 2008
– When the established qualities of the online game business and
development-focused ION Game Conference are brought up, “exclusive,”
“excellent presentation,” “top-notch attendees,” and “superior
networking” are frequently mentioned. While every positive quality of
the 2008 ION Conference will be amplified from 2007, networking is being
given a new and stronger emphasis in 2008.
Evergreen Events, the ground-breaking
agency behind the ION Conference, is therefore pleased to announce the ION
Nexus. The ION Nexus is a set of executive meeting rooms that can be
reserved by companies or individuals at the official conference hotel, the
Seattle Marriott Waterfront hotel. The Nexus is designed for international
and high-level attendees to meet and discuss business in privacy and
comfort. Each meeting room features a spacious 300 square feet of space,
buffet lunch service, features conference table chairs and seating for
eight, and high-speed Internet access. Now, when a publisher from Germany
wants to meet a game developer from South Korea, for example, ION Nexus
participants can be assured of having every advantage needed to make the
best possible impression upon their guests.
Attendees who want to kick off their
days with new contacts in the online game industry can opt-in for a
networking breakfast held each morning before the general conference
schedule begins. Participants will be served a sumptuous buffet breakfast
and be seated at a series of tables with several industry colleagues, and
will be called upon by a master of ceremonies to change seats at regular
intervals to keep the faces fresh, the conversation exciting and their
list of new friends in the business growing.
Jay Moore, game industry veteran and
Founder / "Head of Special Ops" for the Strategery Group, will
be the Master of Ceremonies for the entire three days of the ION 2008
Conference networking breakfasts.
Jay was previously Dir. of Business
Development, Marketing Director & Evangelist for Garage Games, an
online tool dev and game publisher. He joined GG in '02 when they were 5
guys crammed into a one-room office. When he left, they were a team of
30+. While at GG, he launched IndieGamesCon, oversaw the online publishing
of independent games, and worked to establish Torque as the game engine
platform of choice for independent game developers.
"As online games, social networks
and virtual worlds collide it is immensely important that we take the
opportunity to network within our own community of developers. The most
lasting impact of any great conference is the personal connections you can
make with like minded collaborators," Jay Moore said, on the topic of
conference networking.
The 2008 ION Game Conference is now open
for early online registration. The discounted rate available to early
online registrants will only be available until March 17, 2008. Potential
attendees are encouraged to register early, since the ION Conference will
have a limited capacity and may sell out. The Seattle Marriott Waterfront
hotel, the site for the 2008 ION Conference and all official event
activities, is offering a special discounted rate for attendees, of $209
for single or double occupancy. The rate is available until April 14,
2008.
The ION Game Conference is an annual
game industry event designed for an international attendee audience, for
those who strive to network and learn about new online game development
and business trends, at the highest level. Visit the official website

Quotes about Previous ION Conference
Networking Opportunities:
"Great conference overall. Great
networking experience (I've had more e-mail exchanges with attendees than
for just about any previous conference — interesting folks with
interesting things to talk about!)," said Jim Dunstan, Partner,
Garvey Schubert Barer.
"(ION) was the classiest, best-run
game industry event I've been to this year. Not only were the facilities
top notch, but the lectures and panels were packed with great speakers and
the networking opportunities were excellent. (ION) could be become the
must-attend event for the online game industry," said Alexander
Macris, President & CEO of Themis Group, Inc.
“I came for the lectures. I only
attended a few because of the incredible networking (at ION),” said
Chris Breckenridge, CTO of BrainStem Games.
The opportunities for substantive
networking were much better at (ION) as well, (than at big corporate
conferences). --Yvette Waters, Writer-Designer.

ONE MILLION PLAYSTATION®3 USERS
PARTICPATE IN FOLDING@HOME RESEARCH PROJECT PS3®
Users Support Research Efforts of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and Certain
Forms of Cancer
FOSTER CITY, Calif., February 4, 2008
– Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that since
PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) took part in Stanford University’s Folding@home™
project on March 22, 2007, the total number of registered users has
reached over one million users. This equates to roughly 3,000 PS3 users
registering for Folding@home per day or 2 new registered users every
minute worldwide.
“Since partnering with SCEI, we have
seen our research capabilities increase by leaps and bounds through the
continued participation of Folding@home users,” said Vijay Pande,
Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University and Folding@home
project lead. “Now we have over one million PS3 users registered for
Folding@home, allowing us to address questions previously considered
impossible to tackle computationally, with the goal of finding cures to
some of the world’s most life-threatening diseases. We are grateful for
the extraordinary worldwide participation by PS3 and PC users around the
globe.”
Folding@home aims to understand protein
folding and misfolding, and how these are related to diseases and many
forms of cancer. When proteins do not fold correctly, there can be serious
consequences, including many well-known diseases, such as Alzheimer's,
Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many cancers and cancer-related
syndromes.
Prior to the inclusion of PS3 in March
2007, the Folding@home project leveraged the distributed computing power
of personal computers from around the world. Now a network of roughly
10,000 PS3s can accomplish the same amount of work as a network of 100,000
PCs, and have the ability to perform research simulations in weeks rather
than years. In fact, it took just six months after PS3 joining
Folding@home for the project to surpass a petaflops
(*1), a computing milestone that had
never been reached before by a distributed computing network. In September
16, 2007, Folding@home was recognized by Guinness World Records™ as the
world’s most powerful distributed computing network. Currently PS3 users
make up approximately 74 percent of the total teraflop computing power of
the Folding@home project. For more information, please see official
website: http://www.scei.co.jp/folding/en/. (*1) A petaflops is the
ability of a computer to do one quadrillion floating point operations per
second (FLOPS).
