Robust New Eight-Player “Battle of the Bands” Mode
First Game Ever in the Guitar Hero®
Franchise to Allow In-Game Downloadable Content on Wii
Santa Monica, CA – May 22, 2008 –
When the house lights go down this fall, a new generation of axe
shredders, drummers and fearless frontmen will come together and rock with
Activision, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero® World Tour. The latest
installment from the #1 best-selling video game franchise of 2007, Guitar
Hero World Tour will transform music gaming by marrying Guitar Hero’s®
exhilarating guitar gameplay, with a cooperative band experience that
combines the most advanced wireless instruments with revolutionary new
online and offline gameplay modes. The game will feature a slick newly
redesigned guitar, a genuine electronic drum kit and a microphone, as well
as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose,
record, edit and share their own rock and roll anthems, along with online
Band Career and 8-player “Battle of the Bands.”
Delivering the largest on-disc set list
in a music-rhythm game to-date, Guitar Hero World Tour is comprised
entirely of master recordings from some of the greatest classic and modern
rock bands of all-time including Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles,
Sublime and many more. Additionally, the game will offer significantly
more localized downloadable music than ever before on all of the
next-generation consoles. Budding rock stars will also be given creative
license to fully customize everything from their characters’ appearance
and instruments to their band’s logo and album covers.
In addition to a newly designed more
responsive guitar controller and microphone, Guitar Hero World Tour will
deliver the most realistic drum experience ever in a video game with an
authentic electronic drum kit. Featuring three drum pads, two raised
cymbals and a bass kick pedal, the drum controller combines larger and
quieter, velocity-sensitive drum heads with soft rubber construction to
deliver authentic bounce back and is easy to set up, move, break down and
store.
“Guitar Hero has set the standard for
music-based gaming and with Guitar Hero World Tour and the game’s
groundbreaking Music Studio, we are once again delivering unprecedented
innovation that has the potential to revolutionize consumer generated
music, much in the same way that video sharing hubs have driven user
generated video,” said Dusty Welch, Head of Publishing for RedOctane.
“With the introduction of our advanced high-quality new wireless
instruments, in-depth customization options and advanced online
functionality, the game enables music fans and gamers globally to share in
the most social and expressive music experience ever.”
Guitar Hero World Tour delivers more
ways to play than ever before. Virtual musicians can live out their rock
and roll fantasies by playing either a single instrument, or any
combination of instruments, in addition to the full band experience. In
addition to all of the online gameplay modes from Guitar Hero® III:
Legends of Rock, Guitar Hero World Tour introduces Battle of the Bands
mode which allows eight players to join online and challenge each other
band-to-band to determine who is the best of the best. In the Band modes,
up to four players can jam together, online or off, as they progress
through the game, and in single-player Career Mode, players can jam on any
of the instruments in branching venue progression enabling them to rock
out in the order of their choice.
The game’s innovative new Music Studio
lets players express their musical creativity by giving them access to a
full compliment of tools to create digital music from scratch, utilizing
all of the instruments, and then play their compositions in the game.
Music creators will also be able to share their recordings with their
friends online through GHTunes™ where other gamers can download their
unique compositions and play them.
Guitar Hero World Tour is being
developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and
entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer
entertainment system. The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious
Visions. The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being
developed by Budcat. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB.

NCsoft Covers New Ground in City
of Heroes
Newest expansion takes players to
ancient city to save the present day
AUSTIN, Texas, May 21, 2008—NCsoft®
Corporation, the world’s leading developer and publisher of online
computer games, today announced the release of City of Heroes® “Issue
12: Midnight Hour.” The newest free expansion for current subscribers,
Issue 12 brings to life a special covert group from the game’s lore,
highly-anticipated Villain Epic Archetypes, more powerset options and
character slots for players, plus a whole new Greek- and Roman-inspired
zone to explore!
City of Heroes Issue 12, developed and
published by NCsoft, brings the Midnight Squad out of the lore and into
the game. The Midnight Squad is the clandestine organization of mystics,
scholars and mages who hold a secret that could bring the alien group, the
Rikti, to its knees. Players are encouraged to help the Midnight Squad
uncover the secret that could help save Paragon City™ and the Rogue
Isles from further alien assaults.
Part of this secret will be revealed in
a new zone called Cimerora, which uses the Ouroboros time travel system
introduced in Issue 11. This zone, inspired by ancient Greece and Rome, is
only accessible by working with the Midnight Squad. Once the player has
access, both villains and heroes must face deadly creatures and defeat an
unexpected threat. As a reward for their accomplishments in Cimerora,
players can unlock special Greek- and Roman-inspired armor and costumes.
Another key feature in Issue 12 is
Villain Epic Archetypes. Now, villains who reach level 50 unlock two brand
new epic archetypes; Wolf Spiders and Blood Widows. Wolf Spiders can
specialize into Bane Spiders or Crab Spiders, and Blood Widows can develop
into Night Widows or Fortunatas. Each specialty enjoys a unique set of
wickedly powerful attacks.
Issue 12 also introduces Powerset
Proliferation, which vastly increases the variety of villain and hero
characters that players can create. Some powersets, previously only
available to hero archetypes, are now available to designated villain
archetypes, and vice versa. To help accommodate all of these new character
options, the development team has opened additional character slots. All
current subscribers receive two new character slots for use on the server
of their choice. Other slots may be acquired as a part of the Veteran
Rewards program, or for purchase. Details can be found on the City of
Heroes web site.
“With the introduction of Villain Epic
Archetypes, new costume options and Powerset Proliferation in Issue 12, we
knew players would want to be able to create new characters,” said Matt
Miller, lead designer. “Expanding the number of character slots in this
way ensures that our players can use all these new features. We think it’s
a great solution that adds value to the service.”
To join the adventures of the most
successful comic-book themed game on the market, players can purchase the
City of Heroes “Good Versus Evil Edition” game pack at retailers
across North America or through digital download at the PlayNC Store. The
“Good Versus Evil Edition” includes the complete City of Heroes and
City of Villains® games, as well as a set of exclusive bonus items.
Customers receive the first month of play free and both games can be
played for the single monthly subscription price of $14.99.

WII-KLY UPDATE: TWO WIIWARE GAMES
AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL
May 19, 2008 - Today begins a new phase
for the Wii-kly Update. From now on, we'll have all the information about
the arrival of both WiiWare™ and Virtual Console™ games. So basically
you're getting access to the best games of the past and the coolest
creations of the present. With this week's releases you can blast
space-based enemies with your starfighter, fly the not-always-friendly
skies or even corral some cute critters in the barnyard.
Nintendo adds new and classic games to
the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii™ owners
with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download
the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at
retail outlets. This week's new games are:
WiiWare
Critter Round-Up (Konami, 1-4 players,
Rated E for Everyone - Comic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points): The critters
have escaped, and the barnyard is in chaos! It's up to you to quickly
corral the animals in this puzzle-action challenge. You'll have to mend
fences in a hurry to keep all the critters safe and satisfied. But the fun
doesn't stop with the farmland; more than 50 challenging levels take you
to several exotic locations, including the outback, the icy Arctic and
more. There's even a series of minigames for when the critters get you
down: Snowball Soccer, Predator Rampage, Chicken Catch and Fence Trap. Up
to four players can compete or cooperate as the critters run wild. So roll
up those sleeves and grab a friend-those critters won't catch themselves.
Star Soldier R (Hudson Entertainment, 1
player, Rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Star
Soldier R is a new kind of shooter where players aim for the best scores
within a two- or five-minute time limit. Develop various scoring
strategies, and pump out those points within the breakneck time frame.
Assembled in record time to counter the advance of a powerful enemy, the
mysterious Brain Forces, the "Caesar" starfighter takes off to
fight for the very future of mankind. Shoot down countless enemies,
upgrade your ship to the max with power-ups hidden throughout the levels
and wage an all-out assault against the core of the enemy fortress.
Combining the excitement of shoot-'em-ups with in-depth scoring
strategies, this state-of-the-art competitive shooter will keep you coming
back for more. Upload your best scores with Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection,
and pit your skills against the world's best fighter pilots from the
comfort of your living room. Hone your skills and show the world who's
boss.
Virtual Console
SKYKID™ (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E
for Everyone - Mild Cartoon Violence, 500 Wii Points): Red Baron, from the
freedom- and peace-loving nation of birds, Bird Land, faces off in the
skies with his rival Blue Max in this side-scrolling shooting game. Defeat
the many enemies that await you as you complete your mission, using moves
like the loop-the-loop to shoot down enemies from behind. Fly low to pick
up bombs placed in the stage and drop them on command posts, warships or
other designated targets to destroy them. Then land safely at base to
proceed to the next mission. Beware of enemy fire, though-it will cause
you to crash, unless you're able to recover by rapidly pressing the
buttons. You can even play with a second person and fly simultaneously,
sometimes helping each other and other times competing against each other.
Prepare yourself and take to the skies, but make sure that the catchy
background music (which became an instant classic when this game was
originally released) doesn't distract you from your goal.

Age of Conan Collector's Edition
Completely Sold Out
DURHAM, North Carolina - May 19, 2008 Funcom is proud to announce
that the Collector's Edition of Age of Conan is now completely sold out in
all markets. The exclusive edition was announced in January, and has since
topped retail charts at numerous retailers. In some markets, the
Collector's Edition has been sold out for weeks, and as a result
additional boxes were made. These are also sold out, and the total print
run stands at 111,000 units. Lucky customers may still find some copies on
retail shelves, but no re-orders are available.
Additional retail figures for the
standard edition of Age of Conan are also highly impressive. In total,
Funcom is shipping around 700,000 copies of Age of Conan on day one. This
impressive figure for a PC game is powered by equally impressive pre-order
numbers. As a result of the tremendous interest and recent order increase,
Funcom has not been able to fulfill all orders of Age of Conan in several
markets due to current server capacity limitations. Extra orders of
servers are now in place to facilitate for handling of more customers.
Everyone in Funcom is delighted and
humbled with the historical pre-order numbers for Age of Conan. If the
information we have is correct, they represent the highest pre-order
number for any global launch of an original PC game, ever, including the
original World of Warcraft launch,” said Morten Larssen, Funcoms VP
of Sales & Marketing.
More than one million unique visitors
visited the Age of Conan websites last week, and as a result of the great
interest in the game, Funcom's early access offer was swiftly
oversubscribed. The three day early access program was a limited offer
reserved for pre-order customers. While Funcom scaled the servers above
anticipation, player demand surpassed expectations. As the Early Access
servers launched last night, the servers and game held up exceptionally
well. As the game launches properly later this week, Funcom expects
additional large numbers of customers to enter the game.
All the positive signals are naturally
not equal to eventual success, but early indications from the press points
out that the game boasts unique qualities. The very first review for the
game gives it a 9 out of 10 score from Game Reactor, the Nordic regions
largest gaming magazine.
While Funcom is thrilled with the early
success of Age of Conan, and proud of the game launching this week, the
company regrets to inform gamers that the DirectX 10 version of the game
will not ship with the initial launch. As Microsofs DirectX 10 is
undoubtedly the future of PC gaming, Funcom has decided to ship only the
DirectX 9 version at launch, giving the team more time to focus on
building a DirectX 10 version worthy of Microsofts great vision for the
future of PC gaming. This postponement will let Funcom include even more
features in the DirectX 10 version of Age of Conan than originally
planned.
The DirectX 10 version will be premiered
at the German Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, August 20, 24, 2008. A
special preview showing off the advanced graphics made possible by DirectX
10 technology will be unveiled this summer at nVidia's NVISION event in
San Jose, California, August 25 - 27, 2008.
Age of Conan launches 20th of May in
North America / Oceania and 23rd of May in Europe. More information about
the game can be found on www.ageofconan.com

At an MSRP of $89.99, Wii Fit comes

platform that senses both weight and shifts in movement and balance. The
Wii Balance Board connects wirelessly to the Wii™ console and serves as
the centerpiece for more than 40 fun activities that challenge users in
areas like yoga, aerobics, strength training and balance. Helpful virtual
trainers in the game talk users through the different activities and make

Nintendo is holding an interactive release party today for the public in
the southwest corner of New York's Central Park, near the Merchants' Gate.
"We're looking for everyone to 'get on board' and get excited about
their fitness," said celebrity trainer Ashley Borden, who will be on
hand to do personal Wii Fit demos and training.
Wii Fit, which has sold more than 2
million in Japan, starts with a simple measurement that calculates an
adult user's Body Mass Index, or BMI. From there, the Wii Balance Board
accessory can be used as a platform for twirling a virtual Hula Hoop®,
shredding on a virtual snowboard, performing leg extensions or doing a
downward-facing dog yoga pose. Wii Fit contains a wide variety of fun
games and physical activities that target the body's core.
Different people in the same household
can use Wii Fit and track their progress separately. Users' Mii™
caricatures even reflect their fitness levels and change as people become
more proficient at the activities.
Wii is the first video game system ever
included in the President's Challenge, a program of the President's
Council on Physical Fitness and Sports that encourages all Americans to
make physical activity a part of their daily lives. Wii Fit builds on that
honor by encouraging people to keep their bodies moving.

Dungeon Runner adds
another ‘Chunk’, adding membership benefits and heaps of new content
NCsoft has released Chunk
3, a content update for Dungeon Runners, a free-to-play and download game
where players’ rampage through satire drenched dungeons destroying
monsters and collecting loot. Chunk 3 includes beefed up membership
benefits, a variety of new skills, quests, player versus player (PvP)
system improvements and quality of life enhancements.
Chunk 3 makes being a
Dungeon Runners Member much more beneficial compared to non-Members.
Currently, the Membership level costs $4.99 per month and includes
advertisement-free play, an exclusive server, extensive potion stacking,
larger bank storage and access to the most powerful items, weapons and
armor. With the release of Chunk 3, Membership level players are granted a
fifteen percent experience (XP) boost over free players, and they will
gain fifteen percent more gold. Additionally, Members will receive
discounts when using “Kings Coin” to purchase items, receive more
mythic and rare items drops compared to non-Members, and receive
additional bank pages at level 50 and level 100.
“It is important that the
membership level players get great value from their financial commitment
to Dungeon Runners, regardless of the fact that anyone can be a monthly
Member for the cost of a latte,” said Stephen Nichols NCsoft’s
producer and lead programmer for Dungeon Runners. “Dungeon Runners
continues to great game to play for free because of its robust content
features you would find in most full-priced MMOGs, and with this Chunk, we
have greater content coming out including quite a few highly requested PvP
improvements and a set of fun and funny skills. This Chunk is also is
paving the way to the cool features coming up this summer with the release
of the Dungeon Runners retail pack which will include the enigmatic Bling
Gnome.”
The Bling Gnome is sidekick
that will summon a gnomish gangster creature who can pick up all your gold
for quick storage, and can even convert nearby loot into gold. However,
the Bling Gnome will only be available for those that purchase the Dungeon
Runners retail pack, which will be on store shelves later this year.
Dungeon Runners’ PvP
battles will now be more profitable for winners (and losers) with winners
receiving three Kings Coin and losers receiving one. Additionally, the PvP
brawls will be tracked and recorded on an XML data feed where players can
view their battle stats in bracketed leader boards based on rating as well
as win-count. Also, Chunk 3 improves PvP matchmaking and balance to make
sure battles are fair and easy to start.
Chunk 3 also adds five new
skills for players to master including “Barf-O-Rama” which upgrades
poison ranged skills. Each time an enemy takes poison damage from a player’s
poison ranged skills “Barf-O-Rama” improves the chance that enemies
will become ill and start barfing. Once an enemy starts to barf, other
nearby enemies may get disgusted and start barfing too. Each barfing enemy
will take poison damage over time and may also get knocked back due to
their heaving. We’ve also added some item-specific skills, like “Dark
Conniption”, which requires a shield, and “Shiver Shot”, which
requires a ranged weapon.
The new content expansion
also adds quests to the Shadow’s Embrace and Balzack’s Burrow dungeons
as well as an improved social window, a “Noob” Channel and a variety
of balance improvements, weapons, armor and loot. Chunk 3 also features
revisions to tutorial and new player area quests. Some of the new weapons
and armor sets have upgraded particle effects. Finally, every time a quest
is completed a “15% More Cowbell” modifier is granted, which increases
the experience earned by killing monsters by fifteen percent for five
minutes.
