EA To Acquire BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios Leaders in RPG, Action and Adventure Genres; Ten Franchises in Development - Six Wholly Owned

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct 11, 2007

EA today announced an agreement with Elevation Partners to acquire VG Holding Corp. -- the owner of both BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios. This acquisition gives EA a strong competitive position in key genres in interactive entertainment: action, adventure and role-playing games.

The two studios have been recognized for creating some of the highest-quality games in the industry. BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios have ten franchises under development, including six wholly owned games. BioWare Corp. is currently developing the highly anticipated Mass Effect, which will be published by Microsoft in November, and is in the early development stages of a massively multiplayer online game. Pandemic Studios is redefining open-world games with its upcoming Mercenaries 2: World in Flames(TM) and Saboteur(TM), in addition to several unannounced projects. Pandemic Studios and BioWare Corp. employ roughly 800 people across four studios located in Edmonton, Canada; Los Angeles; Austin; and Brisbane, Australia.

"These are two of the most respected studios in the industry and I'm glad to be working with them again. They'll make a strong contribution to our strategic growth initiatives on quality, online gaming and developing new intellectual properties," said John Riccitiello, EA's Chief Executive Officer. "We also expect this will drive long-term value for our shareholders." Pandemic Studios is led by Andrew Goldman, Josh Resnick and Greg Borrud. BioWare Corp. is jointly led by Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka. These teams will join the EA(TM) Games Label run by Frank Gibeau, President of EA Games. "Pandemic Studios remains focused on attracting the best talent and creating blockbuster action games," said Josh Resnick, President and Co-founder of Pandemic Studios. "As a worldwide publishing leader, EA represents the ideal partner to bring our titles to market as global entertainment events." "We are truly excited by John Riccitiello's new vision for EA," said Ray Muzyka, Co-founder and CEO of BioWare Corp.

"This vision is consistent with BioWare's focus on crafting the highest quality story-driven games in the world. It will enable us to further the careers of the passionate, creative and hard working teams at BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Austin." EA will pay up to $620 million in cash to the stockholders of VG Holding Corp. and will issue up to an additional $155 million in equity to certain employees of VG Holding Corp., which will be subject to time-based or performance-based vesting criteria. EA will also assume outstanding VG Holding Corp. stock options. In addition, EA has agreed to lend VG Holding Corp. up to $35 million through the closing of the acquisition. Transaction and Financial Information -- The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. -- The transaction is expected to close in January 2008. -- On a GAAP basis, the acquisition is expected to be dilutive to EA's fiscal 2008 results by approximately $0.30 to $0.40 due to non-recurring acquisition-related charges, stock-based compensation and amortization of intangible assets. This amount is a preliminary estimate based on currently-available information and is subject to change. -- On a non-GAAP basis, the acquisition is expected to be dilutive to EA's fiscal 2008 fourth quarter results by approximately $0.05. The awards pays tribute to the creativity, dedication, and hard work independent developers and amateur game designers put into creating unique experiences through video and interactive features, free downloads and consumer voting. This year's contest is once again sponsored by The Art Institute Online, the US Navy and Alienware.

Mod DB is seeking submissions of modified games, either partial or total game conversions of existing titles to add to its existing database of over 4,000. The entries will be voted upon by visitors to Mod DB beginning on November 15, 2007. AVENCAST: Rise of the Mage Official Demo Released for Unique Action RPG

Toronto, Canada -- Oct 11, 2007 -- In anticipation of the upcoming release of their unique Action RPG game, AVENCAST: Rise of the Mage, leading Publisher Lighthouse Interactive and developer ClockStone Software, today revealed the official demo. Releasing later this month on PC DVD-ROM, AVENCAST combines role-playing with a fluid combat system found in beat-em-up games, which is unique to the RPG genre. AVENCAST is Windows® Vista(tm) compatible and has now gone gold.

Michael Schiestl, CEO of ClockStone Software said, "Players will now have the chance to play the demo and experience first hand some of the exciting features in AVENCAST - intense, action-packed combat sequences, and mighty spells that are graphically stunning. Three indoor and outdoor locations are showcased, with over 20 powerful spells to unlock, and loads of items to uncover. This is just a taste of what AVENCAST has to offer. We hope players will enjoy challenging the malicious foes from the world of AVENCAST!"

"ClockStone created a unique and fluid combat system for AVENCAST that stands out and differs from other action RPGs," said Erik Schreuder, CEO of Lighthouse Interactive. "The demo focuses on the combat system and spell casting. If you like action and role-playing, this is the demo you need to play!"

The demo will allow players to experience AVENCAST's unique combat and spell casting system as they battle numerous demonic enemies. A tutorial will also be available to allow players to hone their skills before heading into battle. With more than 1.5 hours of gameplay, over 20 different spells to master, countless items to uncover, vicious enemies to battle, and exotic environments to explore, players will soon discover whether they have what it takes to rise to the challenge and save their world.

GAME SUMMARY: As the sun rises over Avencast, the renowned academy of magic; a young adept begins his perilous journey. In a world of wizardry, wonder and untold mystery, you must undertake some of the most diverse quests to hone your abilities in spell casting, weaponry and melee combat. Your martial skills are soon put to the test as demonic monsters of unknown ancient origin descend upon Avencast turning the academy into a horrific state of chaos and destruction. Armed with over 50 combat moves and spells, and a vast arsenal of equipment items, you must uncover the source of these ominous happenings while vanquishing an onslaught of fiendish enemies. Treachery and deceit reveal themselves as the vicious army of adversaries beleaguers your frail haven threatening Avencast's very existence. Amidst the mayhem, an astonishing truth unfolds which will forever change the battle scarred Wizard.

AVENCAST: Rise of the Mage is accessible to novice RPG game players, but it will also challenge core RPG and Action fans. Both combat and non-combat interactions create a perfect balance between brains and brawn. By requiring players to bring their own combat and strategic skills to the forefront, they will have the excitement of crafting a powerful character unleashing their hero's potential.

FEATURES: Cast Lethal Spells from Different Skill Trees - Surrounded by vicious foes, unleash a mighty soul magic spell. The pure agglomeration of energy alone produces a warp in the surrounding atmosphere before the catastrophic nova demolishes your enemies. Blood Magic (elementally charged blows with varying speeds, ranges, and damage properties) and Soul Magic (covers all kinds of ranged magic spells allowing better area control) - both allow players to summon reinforcements during combat. Perilous Quests - While brawn and agility will win most battles, acumen and strategic thinking are necessary to survive challenging quests. Fluid Combat System - Chain together spells and easily execute lethal attacks using an innovative system that favors skillful gameplay over dull mouse clicking. Unleash your hero's potential as you bring your own player skills to each intense battle. Strong Player Personification & Character Development - Acquire new equipment, armor, weapons and spell casting skills to craft a powerful character. Over 30 Nightmarish Monsters with Advanced AI - Each with versatile combat strategies, attacks, and defensive moves dependant upon the player's behavior and attack strategy. State-of-the-art 3D Engine - Stunning graphics enhanced with advanced visual effects make for an impressive display of devastating spell casting. Many Hours of Exciting Gameplay - Set in diverse worlds with both indoor and outdoor environments to explore. Attractive to a Broad Range of Players - An Action RPG at its core, but dynamic gameplay and adventure-like quests make AVENCAST attractive to a broad range of game players.

Folklore(TM) Delivers the Perfect Blend of Mystery and Adventure on PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM))

New Action-Adventure Title Provides Unique Tilt-Motion Combat, Vibrant Realms and Creatures and Mysterious In-Depth Storyline

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) announced today the North American release of Folklore(TM) available exclusively for PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)). Developed by Japanese game developer Game Republic under legendary game creator Yoshiki Okamoto, executive producer for Onimusha(TM), Devil May Cry(TM) and Resident Evil(TM), Folklore is a unique, dark fantasy adventure inspired by western fairy tales. Regarded as one of the holiday's most anticipated titles for PS3, Folklore is the story of two strangers drawn together in an effort to uncover the mystery of a remote village that exists on the border between dreams and reality. The two, Keats and Ellen, learn that the answers they seek lie in the realms of the Netherworld, a fantastic world full of creatures, spirits and monsters. In order to solve a mystery that threatens the balance of this universe, the pair must journey through these worlds, combat creatures beyond imagination and uncover their secrets.

"Using a unique combat system that harnesses the power of PS3 and SIXAXIS wireless controller, Folklore will physically grab the attention of fantasy action gamers," said Jeff Reese, director, software marketing, SCEA. "Folklore's multi-threaded story, artistic environments and sublimely bizarre characters provide a powerful mix that will captivate all those who enjoy playing through a gripping mystery adventure." The story begins when Ellen receives a letter from her mother, long presumed dead. Meanwhile, Keats, a skeptical journalist working for a paranormal magazine, is urgently called to investigate a mysterious attack. The fate of this unlikely pair converges in the Irish village of Doolin -- a quaint, sleepy place which hides a secret gateway to the Netherworld and the answer to a 17-year old mystery.

Ellen and Keats, both playable characters, must travel separately through seven vast realms inhabited by "Folks", strange Netherworld creatures whose powers they must collect and harness if they are to survive. Players capture the Folks' powers by using the SIXAXIS controller to tug and reel them out of their bodies. Each Folk has a unique attack ability, adding strategic depth to the gameplay as players must decide which Folk's powers to employ to defeat their next adversary. There are over 100 beautifully-rendered Folks, each with their own special attacks, powers and anatomy. Players will begin the game as either Keats or Ellen and learn their story and gameplay style.

Keats uses a traditional brawler style while Ellen takes a more strategic approach. Players will experience two parallel yet distinct storylines running through the game -- each with its own twists, turns and intrigue. Decisions made in one story line will directly impact the story path of the other. Folklore blends in RPG characteristics including a deep storyline that can equate to over forty hours of gameplay and the ability to level up the creatures you capture throughout your adventure. The game also includes an Online Dungeon Trial feature that allows players to design custom Folklore dungeons, populate them with creatures they've captured during single player gameplay, and share them with other players online. Additional Folklore content like new quests, player outfits, and new Folk creatures will be available through download packs, available exclusively on PLAYSTATION(R)Store. The independent Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rated Folklore "T" for "Teen". For more information about the ESRB, visit http://www.esrb.org
