Nintendo's New Wii Zapper Targets Fun

First Wii Game-Play Accessory Comes Packaged with Zelda Software

Nintendo announced today that the Wii Zapper interface for the hit Wii home video game system will come packed with Link's Crossbow Training. The software is based on the hugely popular Legend of Zelda series and provides a perfect demonstration of the way the Wii Zapper could be used in other games. The Wii Zapper casing houses both the motion-sensitive Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers in a single unit for precision targeting. It goes on sale Nov. 19 at an MSRP of just $19.99.

“The Wii Zapper combines our remarkable controllers into one housing with a classic style reminiscent of arcade-style games,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Both veteran and first-time players will find it brings a whole new dimension to games where targeting is key and provides even more exciting game-play experiences.”

Link's Crossbow Training drops players into a world in the style of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Players assume the identity of hero Link, who progresses through a series of tests to perfect his crossbow marksmanship. Start with stationary bull's-eyes and graduate to moving targets before defending Link against all kinds of enemies.

Third-party publishers have lined up to support the Wii Zapper. EA's Medal of Honor Heroes 2 lets players take World War II into their hands with the Wii Zapper. The game features an all-new Wii-exclusive Arcade Mode that offers accessibility to gamers of all skill levels, a full single-player campaign and support for up to 32 players in multiplayer. Capcom's Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles reveals the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3, as well as new never-before-seen locations like Umbrella's stronghold. One or two players use the Wii Zapper to take aim against a horde of zombies in first-person perspective. SEGA's Ghost Squad lets players replicate the arcade light-gun experience at home with the Wii Zapper.

Remember that Wii features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other Wii features, visit Wii.com.

The Global MMO Game Festival Sets Off Its American, East Asia, and Korean Matches

Seoul Korea, 13th September - After the finale of its European match in Germany, the Game and Game World Championship 2007(GNGWC2007, www.gngwc.com) matches fired off in America, East Asia, and Korea.

KIPA(Korean IT Industry Promotion Agency), the host of GNGWC, announced the kickoff this year’s league in July with six official games – Bomb N Dash (www.bombndash.com), Navy Field (www.navyfield.com), Record of Lunia War(global.lunia.com), Silkroad Online (www.silkroadonline.net), Shot Online (shotonline.gamescampus.com), and War Rock (www.warrock.net). The European final rounds - the first GNGWC2007 match held at the Game Convention Europe - were successful with attracting more than 150,000 participants. Nine players from that finale were selected for the Grand Final to be held on December 1st in Seoul, Korea.

With this successful launch from European gamers, the world’s first MMO e-sports event sponsored by Korea Telecom, the biggiest telecom company in Korea, is now on the way to the American, Vietnam and Korean leagues. All six official games are going to host the match in America, and five games excluding Bomb N Dash will join the Korean league. Silkroad Online, Bomb N Dash, and War Rock will run their matches in the East Asia,.

The first regional match to be kicked off in September was the Korean League. Preliminary matches of Record of Lunia war, Shot Online, Silkroad Online, Navy Field will determine the players that will advance to the Korean Final match, scheduled to be held on 30th September during the Cyber Festival Show. War Rock, unlike other games, has been running its game league, and will pick up Korea representative players from this match. “The competition commence date will be announced by the end of September,” said the representative of Dreamexecution, developer studio of War Rock.

In the America league, War Rock is the first game that started the preliminary matches last week, and Navyfield will follow with its match being held from September 14th to October 7th. Shot Online, Bomb N Dash, and Record of Lunia War are going to start the preliminary matches next week, and SilkRoad Online is scheduled to start the preliminary match on Oct 1st . Each game will pick certain players to go to the final match which will be held on October 20th in Los Angeles at the “LA PC Café”.

Registration for the East Asia match has already begun and hundreds of players from Bomb N Dash, and Silkroad Online are signing up. Since among young people in Vietnam online gaming is one of the most popular entertainments, their interest toward this MMO festival is quite high. The final East Asia match will be held on 13th October in Hochiminh, Vietnam.

The final winners of each country will be selected to participate in the grand final match held on December 1st in Seoul, Korea, and a digital camera, MP3 player, and DVD player will be provided to the 2nd and 3rd place winners of each regional match. Furthermore, the 1st place winner of the Grand Final on Dec 1st in Seoul will be awarded $5,000, $3,000 for the 2nd place, and $1,000 for the 3rd place. In addition, a Korean tour program is in the works to be held during this grand final period too, KIPA said.

Heavenly Sword(TM) Delivers the Perfect Blend of Cinema and Intense Action on PLAYSTATION(R)3

New Action-Adventure Title Provides Unique Gaming Experience with Epic Combat, Stunning Graphics and an Emotional Storyline

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Sept. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) announced today the North American release of Heavenly Sword(TM), available exclusively for PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)). Developed by Ninja Theory Ltd., Heavenly Sword is an emotional roller coaster that invites players to experience a dramatic tale, as Nariko, a fiery red-haired heroine, embarks on a quest for vengeance against an invading King and his army. Regarded as one of the most anticipated PS3 titles of the year, Heavenly Sword is an action-adventure title that takes players' expectations to an all-new level with its unparalleled real-time story development coupled with immersive, action-packed gameplay.

To aid in the development of the characters and story, Ninja Theory employed the talents of Weta Digital Ltd., an Academy Award(R) winning visual effects facility based in Wellington, New Zealand, known for its work in creating Hollywood-quality motion capture and Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). Additionally, theatrical performances were directed by Academy Award winning actor and director Andy Serkis, famous for his role as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and Kong in King Kong. Along with his contributions in the character development, writing, casting, directing and performance capture, Serkis plays the evil King Bohan in Heavenly Sword. "Heavenly Sword seamlessly combines a robust combat system with extraordinary visuals and dramatic character performance to overwhelm the senses and create an experience that can only be achieved on PS3," said Jeff Reese, director, software marketing, SCEA.

"Heavenly Sword has single-handedly exposed the future of the action-adventure genre." In addition to a compelling storyline and characters, Heavenly Sword showcases stunning graphics and sound effects, as gamers experience the next chapter in epic action through a combination of elements. Featuring a combat engine that can scale up from sophisticated one-on-one encounters to allowing for individual Artificial Intelligence (AI) for hundreds of opponents, enemies are able to employ intelligent squad-based dynamics against battalions, thus pushing gameplay and AI to unprecedented new levels. Additionally, Heavenly Sword delivers beautiful physics-based environments that are fully destructible, allowing players the ability to sweep debris against opponents, kick tables to halt an oncoming surge of fighters, smash the enemy into the scenery, or throw and maneuver bodies into other enemies using "aftertouch" controls with the SIXAXIS(TM) wireless controller's motion sensing technology. Offering a wide array of objects and weaponry, including rapid fire crossbows, massively damaging bazookas and catapults, Heavenly Sword takes combat to new heights and delivers a deep, diverse experience.

About Heavenly Sword Heavenly Sword is a dramatic tale of revenge that sees Nariko, a fiery red-haired heroine, embark on a quest for vengeance against an invading King and his army. The story builds around the ancient Heavenly Sword, which once belonged to a powerful deity. But, the sword can never be wielded by a mere mortal ... at least not without it slowly but inevitably draining their life-force. When the invading King Bohan (played by Andy Serkis) destroys the warrior clan that guards the Heavenly Sword, the clan leader's daughter, Nariko, takes up the sword in a desperate fight for survival. Nariko must now pay the ultimate price as she embarks on one last mission of retribution against the King and his army before her life is finally and irreparably overtaken by the omnipotent Heavenly Sword. The independent Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates Heavenly Sword "T" for "Teen". For more information about the ESRB, visit http://www.esrb.org.

Eidos' Pandemonium goes mobile
Elder Scrolls GOTY hits Xbox 360, PC

Pandemonium Arrives on Mobile Eidos delivers classic quirky platformer for mobile phones

Redwood City, Calif. -- Sep 11, 2007 -- Eidos Interactive, one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, is set to release Crystal Dynamic's popular game Pandemonium on mobile devices throughout North America. Developed by Ideaworks, the mobile version faithfully recreates the 1997 game, complete with a 3D in-game camera, choice of characters, 18 beautifully designed 3D worlds, and easy to use controls.

Pandemonium stars the hilarious combo of Nikki and Fargus; Nikki is a wizard-in-training with quick reflexes, a quicker wit and a propensity for acrobatics. Fargus is a slightly deranged jester with an even more deranged puppet sidekick called Sid. Other characters complete the fray, each offering different traits for the player to master. Levels will load by episode to allow players a seamless experience with a huge variety of environments, fast-paced gameplay, and challenging boss fights.

"Pandemonium represents a whole new level of gaming experience on mobile phones," says Dave Clark, vice president of New Business Development at Eidos "The graphics remain strikingly faithful to the original game on console and, as levels load while you play, gamers will enjoy a seamless gaming experience. Micro Fort¨¦ Develops Kwari

Sydney, AUSTRALIA ¨C September 5, 2007 - With much speculation over the last week since its official announcement, Micro Fort¨¦, a leading Australian developer of MMOs, today announced that its Canberra studio is the developer contracted by the London based Kwari company for the development of online-FPS Kwari.

Steve Wang ¨C Head of Studios for Micro Fort¨¦ commented, ˇ°WeˇŻre really excited by the recent announcement of Kwari and even more so to announce our involvement in bringing this unique game title to the table.ˇ±

The Kwari game, which has been developed out of Micro Fort¨¦ˇŻs Canberra studio since mid 2006, is being built on BigWorldˇŻs award-winning Technology Suite, and is due for release later this year. It goes to show that one can develop an action MMO in under 18 months using the BigWorld platform.

ˇ°Working on Kwari has reinvigorated the act of making games for me, without sounding crass it really does represent a paradigm shift that is going to happen sooner or later in gaming whether we like it or not.ˇ± said James Sutherland, Producer for Micro Fort¨¦. ˇ°From a development perspective the existence of money as the core mechanic means you have to throw away much of the conventional thinking and start from scratch; when a health bar suddenly represents real cash the player expectations change radically and you have to adjust everything accordingly. The amount of thinking that has gone into each and every subsystem of the game is far above and beyond anything I have worked on previously during my time in the industryˇ±

GC ASIA DRAWS 70,000 TO PREMIER GAME INDUSTRY EVENT IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC REGION

Singapore and Leipzig, Germany - September 9, 2007 - The first GC Asia, held at the Suntec Exposition Centre in Singapore, closed on Sunday, September 9, 2007, uniting more than 70,000 game enthusiasts from the Asia-Pacific region. The exposition was the first of its kind, offering consumers the opportunity to see and play the hottest games of today and tomorrow while offering trade visitors the opportunity to network and expand their business to new markets.

"GC Asia and the GC Asia Conference mark the international debut for the Leipziger Messe," said Wolfgang Marzin, president and CEO of the Leipziger Messe. "The trade and exposition expertise of the Leipziger Messe team mixed with the regional knowledge and support of our Asia-Pacific partners was key to making the show a must-attend for consumers and game industry executives."

"The expo proved that a show integrating both consumer access and business services was not only wanted, but necessary in the Asia-Pacific region," said Edward Liu, managing director, Conference & Exhibition Management Services Pte Ltd. Singapore. "Our work with the LMI team enabled us to come together under the common goal of making this a reality and a huge success."

"The combination of the exposition, developers conference, and business center offers the industry direct access to consumers, while giving them the support and space they need to conduct their business in a relaxed atmosphere," said Joerg Zeissig, general manager of the Leipziger Messe International (LMI). "The concept of Games Convention was well received in the region and we consider this year's premiere show as a resounding success, having attracted a huge audience for a first year show."

Over 10,000 square meters of space were transformed into a high-energy world of computer games by 81 exhibitors from 13 countries, including major industry players Electronic Arts, Nintendo, Konami, Sony, Asiasoft, Nokia, and more. Over 190 games were shown at the exhibition. The show presented games from all genres and platforms including console, mobile, online, and PC games.

In addition to the exposition, the GC Asia Conference brought together 300 game industry experts for a top-notch program of lectures and panels on key issues for the Asia-Pacific region. The topics of outsourcing, mobile games, online games, and casual games were covered in-depth while presenting business opportunities and perspectives from North America, Europe, and Asia.

Games Convention Asia has been strategically organized to address the development needs and opportunities presented by Asia's rapidly growing digital interactive games industry. Its segmentation into two main areas, the Business Convention and the Public Convention, positions Games Convention Asia as a gateway for European and North American companies to gain better insights into Asia and its fast-paced interactive entertainment market trends. For developers in Asia, the "East-meets-West" platform helps them reach international publishers and distributors.

The GC Asia 2008 will take place in Singapore from October 9th to 12th; with the GC Asia Conference from October 9th to 10th.

2K Games’ BioShock Receives All-Time Highest Xbox 360TM Ranking on Metacritic®

BioShock demo sets record as fastest title to surpass 1 million downloads on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace

New York, NY – September 10, 2007 –2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that BioShock, its hit title exclusively available for Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows®, secured the position of all-time top ranked Xbox 360 game* and the year’s highest ranked game across all console platforms on Metacritic.com, the popular site that aggregates review scores from the leading video game publications and websites. In addition, the title has set a new record on Xbox LIVEŇ as the fastest downloaded demo to ever reach the 1 million mark. The gaming community first learned that the Xbox 360™ demo version of BioShock became available to download on Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE Marketplace via a surprise announcement on August 12.

While many games receive high praise for a specific feature, BioShock’s rave reception revolves around all of its key components. This includes the unique art deco design, the eerie ambiance of its full orchestra score and the 40’s era soundtrack, the interactive quality of the environments, dripping and flood-rushing water effects that have set a new standard for realism, a deep and engaging story line, and gameplay that involves moral choices, an array of options for surmounting obstacles and adversaries, and a power-up component that involves biologically altering your character.

In only nine days since its release on Xbox LIVE, BioShock had outperformed every other demo release on the service, demonstrating both the incredible anticipation for the game and the growth of Xbox LIVE’s community.

“We are really pleased that Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE Marketplace has managed to attract a record number of gamers to its site to download and check out BioShock,” said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. “The overwhelmingly positive response is not only reflected in the traffic to Xbox LIVE, but the record breaking score reported by Metacritic. We’re excited about the reception the fans have given BioShock and are honored that the game has been recognized as ‘Game of the Year’ material.”

With an overall review score of 96 (out of 100) based on more than 50 different critical reviews, the Xbox 360 version of BioShock has earned “Universal Acclaim” status* on Metacritic. Among the leading video game enthusiast outlets that awarded one or more versions of BioShock with a perfect score are Game Informer, 1UP, Games Radar, GameSpy, GamePro, Yahoo! Games, Games Daily, and Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Developed by 2K Boston and 2K Australia for 2K Games, BioShock is a "genetically enhanced" first-person shooter that lets players do things never before possible in the genre. Gamers enter the game as a castaway in Rapture, a decaying art deco underwater utopia torn apart by civil war. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically modified "splicers" and deadly security systems, players have to come to grips with a deadly, mysterious world filled with powerful technology, fascinating characters and morality defining choices. To make it to the end, players can turn everything they encounter into a weapon, biologically modify their body with plasmids, hack devices and security systems, upgrade weapons, craft new ammo variants, and experiment with different battle techniques. No encounter ever plays out the same and no two gamers will play BioShock the same way.
